Alberta Legislature - Teachers' Corner-- Information for teachers on all the programs offered through the Alberta Legislature. Tours, programs and resources are also available in French.

The Library of Parliament - Educational Programs and Projects -- The site offers links to all of the educational programs and product produced by the Library of Parliament.  This site is a must see for any social studies teachers from K-12 ( also available in french )!

A to Z Lesson Plans-- Where you will find hundreds of original lesson plans submitted by teachers to A to Z Teacher web site

LessonPlanz-- Over 3,500 links to individual lesson plans and resources.

Mr. Dowling's Virtual Classroom-- A resource for discovering different people and cultures. The site contains world history and geography lessons, homework handouts and study guides.

Teach with Movies-- An archive of lesson plans for movies. Learning Guides to each recommended film describe the benefits of the movie, possible problems, and helpful background. Discussion questions, bridges to reading, projects and links to the internet are also provided.

Ask Asia-- AskAsia offers a wide variety of educational resources for the classroom, including lesson plans, readings, and resource center locator. All lessons, images, and maps in this area have been copyright-cleared and can be downloaded to use in the classroom. Suitable for K-12 Asian studies curricula.

Awesome Library-- Follow the floor plan to discover comprehensive educational resources, projects, discussions, collaborations, & standards for K-12 Lesson Plans.

BBC Online: Education-- Excellent education web site from the BBC.

New York Times Teacher Connections-- An extensive lesson plan archive from the NY Times Learning Network.

PBS TeacherSource-- Public broadcasting provides K-12 educators with over 1,400 free lesson plans, teacher guides and online activities.

Discovery Education--Discovery Education supports teachers in accelerating student achievement, bringing the world of Discovery into classrooms to ignite students' natural curiosity.

Media Smarts: Canada's Centre for Digital and Media Literacy--you will find outcome charts containing media-related learning expectations from the social studies curriculum, with links to supporting resources on the MediaSmarts site. As many of our lessons can be adapted to suit different grade levels and abilities, specific lessons may be listed for more than one grade. Teachers should also note that individual lessons often satisfy a number of expectations.

Fieldtrip locations and Programs

Rutherford House -- For many years, Rutherford House welcomed the political and social elite of Alberta. Today, this restored Edwardian mansion maintains that tradition of hospitality and recaptures the spirit of Edmonton in 1915.

Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village -- Take a guided tour through the farmsteads, town site and rural community. Ride in a horse-drawn grain tank or explore the site on your own. Bring a picnic lunch and your camera and enjoy a relaxing day with friends and family.

Green Street --Green Street offers curriculum-aligned environmental learning and sustainability programs to teachers across Canada in both languages.  Includes information in the Teacher Zone on programs currently offered to elementary and secondary schools.

Fort Edmonton Park-- Education programs at Fort Edmonton Park will challenge students to question and rethink their assumptions about Canada's past.

Alberta Legislature-- Interpretive tours of the Alberta Legislature are offered for student groups of all ages. The tours provide an overview of the history of the province and an insight into the legislative process.

Heritage Park-Calgary-- Our interactive School Programs bring students the unique opportunity to explore and experience the lives of Western Canada's pioneers and settlers in our hands-on historic environment.

Alberta Assessment Consortium-- Is a non-profit organization " dedicated to enhancing student learning through classroom assessment that increases student confidence as learners and enables them to reveal what they know and demonstrate what they can do".  Find a variety of online assessment tools and materials for teacher use!  A must see for Alberta Teachers!
